Nichols Tops Aquinas

The team was back on the bus on Tuesday afternoon, to travel to Rochester where they faced always-tough Aquinas. A last-minute decision found sophomore Linda Ullmark back in the lineup, which would pay dividends early, when she delivered a cross to Mirann Gacioch (’22) just outside the box. Mirann hammered a left foot into the upper right corner, a shot that the goalie likely celebrated that she didn’t have to try to handle. It was a moment of ooh-and-awe.
Ten minutes later, sophomore Emerson Bacak found Mirann outside the box on the right side, and Mirann hit another meteor into the upper left. More awe! And Nichols wouldn’t be done in the first half. Gacioch shook of a couple defenders and then passed to Ullmark at the left corner of the box. Ullmark beat two defenders and then crossed a hard shot that tucked into the far post.
Aquinas came back in the second half and scored two, while Nichols had at least four great opportunities that bore no fruit. (That’s a metaphor, by the way.) The game ended 3-2, giving the team a three-victory streak that they hope to extend when they travel to Mercy (Rochester) on Wednesday.
